National Sickie day – is it really a thing?

So, we’ve just survived Blue Monday in January and today we have National Sickie Day – it’s always on the first Monday in February apparently.

Sickness will obviously be slightly skewed this year, with Covid still prevalent, but we’re curious to know whether you find that you usually see an increase in sick days at this time of year – or is it just a myth!

Myth or not, there are ways we can support employees with benefits to help stop them from getting sick in the first place, or at least alleviate some of the more serious symptoms.

One of the highest causes of sickness is mental health and offering a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme will certainly help employees who are struggling emotionally. Encouraging employees to attend regular health screenings will also make sure any physical ailments are picked up quickly.

Prevention is always better than cure and getting physically fit can make the world of difference to general sickness levels, so offering employees gym discounts or a bike to work scheme also seems a no brainer!

What else do you have in your organisation to help prevent high sickness levels?

In the meantime – keep well on National Sickie Day!
